Tungsten Carbide (Tungsten Carbide), is a kind of composed of Tungsten and carbon compounds. The formula is WC and the molecular weight is 195.85.
It is a black hexagon crystal with metallic luster and similar hardness to diamond. It is a good conductor of electricity and heat. Tungsten carbide is insoluble in water, hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid. It is easily soluble in nitric acid and hydrofluoric acid. Pure tungsten carbide is fragile, if mixed with a small amount of titanium, cobalt and other metals, can reduce brittleness. Tungsten carbide, used as a tool for cutting steel, is often added with titanium carbide, tantalum carbide or a mixture of them to improve anti-explosion capability. The chemical properties of tungsten carbide are stable. Tungsten carbide powder is used in hard alloy production materials.
USE
A large number of high speed cutting tool, kiln structure materials, jet engine components, metal ceramic materials, resistance heating elements, etc.
Used for manufacturing melting crucible of cutting tools, wear-resisting parts, copper, cobalt, bismuth and other metals, wear-resisting semiconductor film.
Used for ultra-hard tool materials, wear - resistant materials. It can form solid solution with many carbides. Wc-tic -Co carbide tool has been widely used. It can also be used as the modified addition of carbon in NbC-C and TaC-C ternary system, which can not only reduce sintering temperature, but also keep good performance, and can be used as aerospace materials.
Tungsten oxide (WO3) and graphite in reducing atmosphere in 1400 ~ 1600 ℃ high temperature synthesis of tungsten carbide (WC) powder. Compact ceramics can be prepared by hot pressing sintering or hot isostatic pressing sintering.
